Dr. Shyamal Chowdhury has 30 years experience in hydrology, hydraulics, and flood risk assessment. He has served as consultant and project manager for federal, state, and local agencies on flood hydrology, hydraulics, floodplain mapping, levee certification, and flood hazard assessment in the United States. Currently, he is deploying cutting edge technology in hydrologic modeling and one-and two-dimensional hydraulic modeling and has groomed a team of sophisticated modelers and engineers at Wood Rodgers. As a Certified Floodplain Manager, he has the honor of being a driving force behind the study that led to the “Guidelines for Coastal Flood Hazard Analysis and Mapping for the Pacific Coast of the United States” for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

As a seasoned Project Manager, he has extensive experience in forming and leading large multi-disciplinary teams for projects up to $25 million in both the United States and international markets.He maintains close relationships with academia and staff and regularly fosters two-way communication to cross-pollinate research topics and water industry needs.

Shyamal enjoys reading, writing, meditation, and travel.
